Description / History/ Origin
Mâconnais is made around the town of Mâcon located in South Burgundy (in the Soane et Loire department). This area is full of Roman architecture and ancestry. The region may be most famous for its wines, however, the goat’s cheeses made by farmers and artisan cheese makers is closely associated with the vineyards. The goat’s graze in the fields dotted around the vineyards and their milk is then used to make the delicious Mâconnais cheese.
